The TRS chief, Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao, referring to the 2014 general elections as “an opportunity to teach the Congress a lesson” came as a rude shock to the Telangana protagonists. While a section of agitators fear that Mr Rao’s talk of electoral politics may dilute the Telangana struggle his detractors, mainly the Telugu Desam, pounced on him for defeating the spirit of the struggle.

“He (KCR) is repeatedly demonstrating his obsession with electoral politics which fulfil his real agenda. A man who recently announced that T state is a reality in two weeks now wants people to wait till 2014 polls,” said the the TD’s T forum convener, Mr E. Dayakar Rao.

The Telangana TD leaders squarely blamed Mr Rao for delay in achieving the long cherished dream of separate state. Though none came out openly criticising Mr Rao, the T Congress leaders were also angry with Mr Rao for what they call “trapping them into the resignation” crisis.

“It is increasingly becoming evident that the Centre is not going to take any decision in the near future and Mr Rao, being a clever leader, diverted people’s attention to 2014 polls,” a Congress MP pointed out.

Incidentally, the BJP has made its intentions clear that it would wait for 2014 elections and formation of NDA government rather than launching a full fledged political struggle for Telangana.
